In addition to just providing great, consistent, considerate service every week (even during the strike a few years ago), they communicate well with postcards & newsletters that include actual relevant info, and handy, aesthetically-pleasing and easy to use reference guides to make your daily personal quest for a greener planet easier. Most importantly, they continue to invest in additional ways to reduce landfill, by increasing the number of items they can process for recycling & organic waste and continually educating the public about it! Not to mention your FREE annual bag of compost (reminder: compost redemption month is coming up in March - watch your mail for info on where to pick yours up - we got ours at Pete's Hardware last year.) Did you know: * you can now recycle aluminum foil (balled up) & baking trays * you can also recycle PLASTIC BAGS (put a bunch of them in one plastic bag & tie it up tightly so they don't fly around) * every size & shape of plastic container #1-7 is now recyclable * pizza boxes, paper napkins and similar food-stained paper products can go in your Green Bin along with all kinds of food scraps, including stuff you couldn't put in a compost bin like meat, dairy & bread One tricky item that is still NOT recyclable even though it seems instinctively so, is the juice box/ tetrapak (however, 100% waxed paper like a milk carton goes in the Green Bin). However, rates are based only on the size of the TRASH can (Brown Bin) you use each week (64 gallon recycling & organic bins are included at every rate level), so you may be able to keep your fees down by being more militant about your recycling & organic waste habits and go with a smaller trash can. There's an extra incentive as well - there are monthly "Fast Cash For Food Scraps" random checks of Green Bins - you could win $100 if yours includes food scraps & food-stained paper! Oh - and you'll be getting brand new cans starting at the end of March as well, so if yours is a little funky and/or broken, hope is near and doesn't involve the garden hose or duct tape.
