New radiant heating boiler

I attempted to turn on my heat for the season yesterday and the boiler was dead. I have an original boiler and when I called two radiant heating companies, they both recommended a new boiler for 7-8K. Apparently, there is a $1500 tax credit if you replace the boiler with a high efficiency one. The credit expires at the end of 2010.
My question--has anyone changed boilers in the past year or two and if so, how did it work out as far as reduced bills and speed of heating the house? What companies did you use and would you recommend them?

Zelda,
We installed a new boiler in the spring so I really don't have a feel for its effect on our bills. We did so many things almost concurrently to improve the heating that it's hard to tease apart individual contributions. But we paid less than half what you were quoted for a boiler.
