Hi, All:

As you may know, the Castro Valley Boulevard Improvement project includes a public art component. If you know that, then you probably know that proposals by the six finalist artists are on display now at the CV Public Library. The proposals are also viewable online at http://acgov.org/arts/html/whats_new.html.

Cheers!

  • They're all pretty good. I think I like the first one with the owls best. Really torn about that Castro Valley Canoe sign though. At first I thought it was fun in a kitchy sort of way, as if it were something out of a time capsule from the 60s or early 70s. When I found out it was designed in the 90s that kinda ruined it for me.
    • Funny - that's exactly where we landed on both issues as well! The owls were the best of the new proposals, and the feedback I gave on the canoe poll was that if it were truly from the 60's and had historical significance it would be cool, but without that it could only be used as something like a drive-in movie sign...maybe.
      • Oh man. A drive in would be cool.
  • Everybody deserves another chance! Alameda Arts Commission has extended the exhibit at the CV Library & deadline for feedback to November 29th.
  • We just filled out our questionnaires last Sunday. I'm curious your favorite? We liked proposal #3 the most.

  • Thanks Mark. Please note that deadline for feedback on these proposals is Monday, November 15. Also, there's a survey (no deadline specified, so the sooner the better) regarding the old Castro Valley "canoe" sign: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/cvsign
